June 2008

June is not only the month we celebrate because of the school year coming to a close, it is also the time of the year that we remember our fathers.  Please consider the following scriptures referring to fathers.

“See, I will send you the prophet Elijah before that great and terrible day of the Lord comes.  He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the land with a curse.”
Malachi 4:5&6

Apparently God, the heavenly father, is serious about fathers and their relationships with their children and the children’s relationships with their fathers. As we submit ourselves to God, as we seek to follow Jesus, as we are directed by the Holy Spirit, may the hearts of the fathers and their children be united.

The following are some scriptures of instruction for children and fathers.  May God give us wisdom and determination to heed these teachings.

“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother—which is the first commandment with a promise—that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth. Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.”

Ephesians 6:1-4
